Designer - Electric Utilities
Cordoba Corporation is a leading engineering and program management firm based in California. We are seeking Designers to join our Energy-Electric team, contributing to the development and enhancement of power infrastructure.
About the role
As a Designer, you will design and analyze Overhead and Underground electric utility lines, working on projects that uphold industry standards and implement innovative solutions. This role involves collaboration with the engineering and design team to produce and review distribution design packages, ensuring technical expertise and compliance with industry practices.
Responsibilities
- Work with the engineering and design team to produce and/or review overhead and underground distribution design packages.
- Prepare construction drawings, materials inventory (install and removals), voltage drop calculations, environmental/FAA/permitting releases, easements, fielding photos, and notes.
- Handle distribution planning coordination requests and GIS maps.
- Apply knowledge of overhead or underground electric utility designs, construction standards, applicable codes, and industry practices to produce reliable designs and quality control reviews.
- Review design documents and drawings for accuracy and completeness, addressing discrepancies or issues.
- Provide clear and concise comments and justifications for design deficiencies.
- Review revised designs for incorporation of comments.
- Identify trends or new issues and communicate them to management along with potential solutions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable company and client standards and procedures.
- Provide technical support to junior designers.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of department and company goals.
- Participate in special projects or tasks as required.
Requirements
Designer I
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent.
- 1-3+ years of experience in electric utility design within new business and/or system hardening.
- Experience with design and analysis for Overhead and Underground projects.
- Proficiency in calculating voltage drop and flicker.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
- Proficiency using O-Calc and AutoCAD design software.
- Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide technical support to junior designers (preferred).
Designer II
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent.
- 3-5+ years of experience in electrical utility design.
- Experience with design and analysis for Overhead and Underground projects.
- Proficiency in calculating voltage drop and flicker.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
- Proficiency using O-Calc and AutoCAD design software.
- Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using SAP software (preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience providing technical support to junior designers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Pay
- Designer I: $28.00 - $43.00 per hour.
- Designer II: $34.00 – $48.00 per hour.
Schedule
- Work Location: Remote in Pleasanton, Bakersfield, or San Diego, CA.
- Up to 20% travel within CA.
