Electrical Designer - Utilities Distribution Systems
Stantec is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to provide utilities distribution operations supervision, project management, and technical support on electric distribution design projects. About the role
This position involves supervising utility design and field operations teams, managing project schedules, and delivering technical support for electric distribution projects. You will develop detailed electrical designs, coordinate permitting, conduct field audits, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Responsibilities
- Supervise utility design and field operations teams to support distribution projects.
- Plan work schedules based on staffing workload and safety requirements.
- Develop detailed electrical designs, including calculations, in coordination with Stantec designers and clients.
- Coordinate permitting for railroad, roadway, and utility crossings.
- Conduct field audits of existing overhead and underground facilities associated with electric distribution systems.
- Prepare field notes and preliminary designs.
- Analyze electrical load data and perform calculations to determine the size and location of electric distribution facilities based on engineering standards, easements, Right of Way permits, and operational needs.
- Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety, Security, & Environment (HSSE) policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
- Communicate and collaborate with Environmental Services and other business lines (Power and Transportation/ROW) to ensure consistency in project execution.
Requirements
- Proven experience in electric distribution design, field coordination, crew supervision, and project oversight.
- Ability to work with initiative, professionalism, and confidentiality, and adapt to change in a dynamic environment.
- Strong problem detection and resolution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task across multiple projects and managers.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD design; experience with Civil 3D preferred (Surfaces, Alignments, Profiles, Cross-Sections, Corridors, and Grading).
- Experience reading and interpreting design plans.
- Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Must be located in or within a 2-hour radius of the advertised location.
Qualifications
- Engineering Technology degree and/or comparable work experience in electrical distribution systems design.
- 1+ years of progressive electrical design experience in electrical distribution projects.
This role operates in a typical office environment with extended periods of computer use. Fieldwork may include exposure to inclement weather and outdoor elements.
Pay
Annual pay range: $67,800.00 - $94,900.00. Final compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible. Part-time compensation is pro-rated based on agreed working hours.
