Designer – Civil/Structural

About the role

NorthStar Energy Services is seeking an experienced and technically strong Designer to join the Professional Engineering Consulting team in Arlington or Houston, Texas. This role requires hands-on leadership for complex deliverables while supporting project execution under the direction of the Design Supervisor and Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

• Design Develop and maintain 3D models of foundation and structural steel systems using CADWorx Plant/CADWorx Structure (2020 or later versions).
• Produce detailed design drawings, layouts, and models from engineering calculations, specifications, and conceptual sketches.
• Independently generate and update 3D structural models and 2D engineering drawings throughout project lifecycle.
• Coordinate with engineering and design disciplines to ensure proper model integration, spatial coordination, and design accuracy.
• Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction personnel, and equipment suppliers to ensure design compatibility and constructability.
• Absorb Discipline Engineers in the review of structural steel shop fabrication drawings to verify compliance with design intent and project specifications.
• Utilize Autodesk Navisworks for 3D model navigation, clash detection, and multidisciplinary design reviews.
• Support project teams in maintaining accurate models and drawing documentation in accordance with company and client standards.
• Compile and maintain project documentation, including status reports, punch lists, progress sketches, and material quantity calculations, and communicate updates to the Design Lead.

Qualifications & Experience

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in civil-structural systems design.
• Minimum of five (5) years of current experience with AutoCAD, CADWorx, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office.
• Detailed knowledge in the application of Codes and current Standards, including but not limited to: ACI 318, AISC, OSHA.
• Ability to independently research and interpret equipment data, vendor documentation, and technical references.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders.
