About the Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer‑aided design tools such as CAD, CAM, NX, and CATIA. Gathers information, conducts studies, performs calculations, and prepares rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups, considering ease of manufacture, material availability, and contractual specifications. This Designer 4 position is a team‑lead role within the New Construction Carrier Foundation Group, responsible for managing workloads, assigning work across multiple projects, mentoring staff, solving design problems, reviewing design products, representing the department in meetings, providing weekly status updates, and collaborating with waterfront personnel and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Manage and assign design workloads across multiple carrier foundation projects.
• Mentor and teach junior designers and team members.
• Develop and modify component designs using NX/TC and AutoCAD.
• Prepare rough layouts, sketches, and design proposals.
• Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups.
• Ensure designs meet ease‑of‑manufacture, material availability, and contractual specifications.
• Track and report design metrics and schedule progress.
• Represent the department in internal and external meetings.
• Provide weekly status reports to leadership.
• Collaborate with waterfront personnel and external vendors.
• Maintain high quality and meet demanding schedule requirements in a fast‑paced environment.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Associate’s degree (or equivalent) and at least 6 years of relevant experience.
• Equivalent qualifications may include:
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED plus 2 years of related manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, or military experience
  • High School/GED plus 4 years of non‑related manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, or military experience
• Experience scheduling assignments, tracking, and reporting metrics.
• Design proficiency in welds, structural foundations, lifting pads, and hangers.
• Ability to work in a high‑pace, multitask environment while delivering quality results.
• Travel requirement: 10 %–25 % of the time.

Skills

• Proficiency with NX/TC design software (primary tool).
• Competence in AutoCAD (occasional use).
• Familiarity with CAD, CAM, and CATIA.

Pay

Salary range: $83,000.00 to $104,000.00 per year (estimated base pay; final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and other job‑related factors).

Schedule

Full‑time, 1st shift. No telework eligibility. No relocation assistance. Travel required 10 %–25 % of the time.
