About the Role
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
Responsibilities
- Directly involved in electrical design and development of drawings associated with ship modification and overhauls
- Follow applicable drawings procedures and standards
- Locate, interpret and apply government and vendor-furnished information and technical data during development of functional electrical design drawings
- Travel to numerous Naval Bases to support pier side shipchecking and surveys (25%-50% of the time)
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience or Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years experience
- US Citizenship required
- Basic understanding of ship design practices and blueprint reading skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with US Navy Power Interior Communication, and Control Systems
- Understanding in ship design (CG, LPD, LHA/LHD & LCS)
- Background in Electrical Design
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and Word
