Responsibilities
- Maintaining, monitoring, and performing preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems including: fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear), emergency backup systems and hot water systems.
- Monitoring operation, adjusting, and maintaining refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment; boilers, and ventilating and hot water heaters; pumps, valves, piping and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Installing and repairing plumbing/piping/tubing; wire single and three phase motors (single & two speed); run conduit; pull wiring to machinery, motors, operating parts, etc.; install and rebuild pumps and motors; install and rebuild air compressors; heat exchangers; replace bearings in all types of motors; replace seals on pumps; install and repair piping, valves, filters, hot water systems and associated controls.
- Assisting other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of building and equipment.
- Installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical controls, switching and motor controls.
- Operating and maintaining critical equipment including UPS systems, generators, chillers and critical air conditioning units.
- Maintaining a clean and safe workplace.
- Overseeing the activities of contractors working within the building.
- Keeping records of buildings rounds and readings, all engineering logs and engineering data sheets.
- Understanding and complying with emergency escalation procedures.
- Ensuring that the Working-In-Critical-Areas Policy is a well-understood process among the building staff, engineers, tenants and contractors who perform work on the building’s critical infrastructure.
- Understanding and complying with JPMC GRE Standards, Technical Bulletins, established engineering guidelines, processes, and procedures.
- Aiding in identifying training needs for the team by evaluating strengths and weaknesses.
- Developing or overseeing the development of the handouts, instructional materials, job aids and manuals.
- Leading the Train the Trainer program on site.
- Acclimating new hires to the business and conducting orientation sessions and trainings.
- Scheduling and managing training sessions and delivering training courses.
- Evaluating ongoing programs to ensure that they reflect any changes.
- Maintaining complete and meticulous records on all training initiatives.
- Assisting in regular engineering responsibilities requested by the Chief engineer.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in a data center/critical facility, including UPS Systems, emergency generators, and switch-gear.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent.
- Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with prior instructor experience preferred.
- Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service as well as leadership ability, among engineering peers.
