Engineer in Training

This is a 30-week rotational program where you will spend time in six different Vogt Power engineering functions, gaining hands-on experience and in-depth technical training in each department. Mentors provide 1:1 support throughout the program, which also includes up to 4 weeks of field experience. Upon successful completion, you will transition into an engineering role based on your preference and company needs. Start dates are flexible to accommodate your academic calendar.

Program Rotations

  • Thermal Engineering
    • Use proprietary thermal rating software for HRSG design and performance analysis
    • Design natural circulation evaporators and steam drum internals
    • Perform preliminary ASME Code calculations for fin tubes, headers, and piping
  • Product Engineering
    • HRSG design including P&IDs and supporting equipment lists
    • Sizing and specification of boiler equipment (valves, pumps, SCR systems, duct burners, etc.)
    • Technical approval and integration of boiler equipment in the overall HRSG
  • Mechanical/Pipe Stress Engineering
    • ASME code-required pressure containment calculations
    • Calculations for physical layout of the HRSG
    • Piping flexibility analysis based on operational data and support design
  • Project Engineering
    • Shadow a Project Engineer through capital project team meetings, design reviews, and schedule/planning reviews
    • Assist with technical review tracking and documentation review
    • Review overall HRSG design, ASME Section 1 and B31.1 Code, VPI standards, and engineering procedures
  • HRSG Services
    • Propose and support customer inquiries for spare parts
    • Execute spare parts projects including purchasing and logistics
    • Compile proposal estimates using detailed Bill of Materials tables and replacement strategies
    • Draft proposals explaining design attributes, scope of supply, and installation methodology
    • Participate in construction and project meetings to understand installation and execution strategies
  • Capital Sales
    • Provide technical support for new build HRSG proposals
    • Define scope of supply for budgetary proposals
    • Develop proposal-level General Arrangements (GAs) and Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Field Experience

    Field experience will vary based on availability, project timeline, and business need.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, civil, structural, chemical, process, or engineering management) or a closely related discipline
  • Relevant co-op or internship experience preferred
  • Demonstrated passion for engineering
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Team player with leadership potential and a solution-minded approach
  • Valid passport and ability to travel when required
