About the role

Ignite your career at Builders FirstSource, America’s largest supplier of building materials, value-added components and building services to the professional market. As a Design Technician II in Woodland, WA, you will read plans and create designs and placement drawings prepared directly from information submitted on a company order form. You will complete CAD work alongside the design manager, develop layout and design drawings from architectural drawings or sketches, and generate placement plans identifying the location of individual designs.

You may also obtain information about field-modified or damaged products, summarize it, and provide it to a professional engineer for repair drawings. You will analyze technical data to ensure designs meet functional and performance specifications, confer with engineering personnel, and prepare design modifications as needed. Additionally, you will analyze plans and diagrams to determine material and processing specifications, write technical descriptions, and create rough sketches or arrange for finished drawings to illustrate materials or assembly sequences.

Responsibilities

  • Read plans and create designs and placement drawings from company order forms.
  • Complete CAD work alongside the design manager.
  • Develop layout and design drawings from architectural drawings or sketches.
  • Make phone calls to building designers or professionals to obtain or clarify information on blueprints.
  • Generate placement plans identifying the location of individual designs.
  • Obtain and summarize information on field-modified or damaged products for professional engineers to evaluate and complete repair drawings.
  • Analyze technical data and reports to ensure designs meet functional and performance specifications.
  • Confer with technical and engineering personnel to prepare design modifications.
  • Analyze plans, diagrams, or observations to determine material and construction specifications.
  • Write technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties.
  • Create rough sketches or arrange for finished drawings/photographs to illustrate materials or assembly sequences.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with PrimeCad, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD is required.

Work Environment

  • Frequently required to stand and sit; occasionally required to walk.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Subject to both typical office environment and outside locations with temperature and weather variations.
  • Regularly required to use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
  • Subject to quiet conditions, such as those in a library or private office.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $34.00 – $40.00
