Design Professional II - Affordable Housing
About the role
A Design Professional II is a non-licensed architecture professional with at least six years of experience. They are fully competent in all aspects of architecture and responsible for specific technical design aspects of assigned major projects.
Responsibilities
- Independently produces finished plans, specifications, and approvals of materials and construction on moderate to large scale projects
- Provide professional consultation and coordination of the planning and development of construction and design document production, ensuring coordinated and high-quality documents
- Perform construction administration duties, such as site visits, RFI responses, submittals, and punch list reviews
- Create and review projects reports, estimates, calculations, specifications, and compile/analyze relevant data
- Monitor billing efficiency rates and work to maximize team’s quality and efficiency in assigned tasks
- Proactively coordinate meetings with clients, project teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure trust and confidence
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced project associates and interns
- Involvement in exploring subject area, defining scope, selecting items for investigation, and developing complex or novel concepts and methods
- Contribute innovative design ideas that consistently capture the intended design vision
- Contribute to bold design solutions that balance scale, aesthetics, and context to maximize the impact to the individual and community
Competencies
- Proficiency in Revit
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suites (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Proficiency with Sketchup and Rhino. Lumion, Enscape, Twinmotion, and V-Ray are a plus
- Possess a balanced blend of design and technical skills
- Knowledge in the design process, construction documentation, and construction administration
- Strong working knowledge of zoning and building codes, CBC Chapter 11B, specifications, building /engineering systems, and agency requirements (NFPA, ADAAG, FGI, OBC, IBC etc)
- Knowledge of Affordable Housing policies, funding sources, and legislative measures
- Understanding of how to generate housing yield studies and test fits
- Knowledge of affordable housing entitlement process with governing authorities and clients
- Skilled in completing entitlements drawing packages for affordable housing
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to meet schedule deadlines and work within the client's budget
- Excellent organization and client presentation skills
- Passion for providing exceptional client service
- Collaborative and professional work ethic
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture or Bachelor of Architecture degree from an accredited university preferred
- Master of Architecture preferred
- A minimum of six years of architecture related experience

Supervisory Requirements
Provides supervision for project associates or interns as needed.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional open office environment with low to moderate noise levels including collaborative work areas for team meetings. Each office provides collaborative work areas and shared resources such as video conferencing, printing/scanning, and a café for dining. Building construction sites may include varying temperatures, wind, dust, and noise levels and may include hazardous and dirty conditions.
Physical Demands
Hand/Wrist/Finger dexterity for 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week
Ability to lift a set of construction documents
Ability to sit for long periods of time
Position/Hours expected to work
This is a full-time position with the expectation of working a minimum of 40 hours per week.
Travel
Occasional travel depending on project assignments.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture or Bachelor of Architecture degree from an accredited university preferred
- Master of Architecture preferred
- A minimum of six years of architecture related experience
