About the role

This is an immediate, full-time Design Management Lead – Construction Administration position for a project within the NYC Department of Design and Construction’s (DDC) Design-Build program to construct four new multibillion-dollar buildings across four boroughs. This role is specific to the Bronx borough.

Before the site office opens, you will work in the Program Management Office in Midtown Manhattan four days per week and in the Design-Builder’s Lower Manhattan project office one day per week. Once the Bronx site office opens, you will work one day per week in Midtown and the remainder in the Bronx. Office hours are 8/8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Confirm that designs and systems are designed and constructed in compliance with defined project requirements and goals, including RFIs and submittals.
  • Support the delivery of work packages to the required scope, quality, schedule, and cost.
  • Conduct inspection readiness pre-walks for DOB/FDNY/AHJ milestones and key testing events; confirm prerequisites and documentation are complete.
  • Coordinate and schedule subject matter expert (SME) site visits for BOD-critical scopes (envelope/waterproofing, firestopping, MEP sequences of operation, detention/security interfaces, acoustics, vibration, life-safety integration); consolidate findings and track closeout.
  • Evaluate the design-builder’s progress against scope, quality, schedule, and cost; implement corrective action as needed.
  • Confirm that design documentation covers the scope of work required by the client and is produced to agreed standards, schedule, and budget.
  • Plan for effective project implementation, identifying key issues and contributing to the project’s technical planning process.
  • Ensure processes and activities are appropriately documented with maintained records and quality controls.
  • Review and coordinate responses to submittals and RFIs in conformance with project requirements.
  • Review and confirm that shop drawings conform to design packages and project requirements.
  • Review and confirm that material samples and mock-ups conform to design packages and project requirements.
  • Review change order requests; coordinate SME input and provide consolidated professional recommendations.
  • Facilitate resolution of construction issues with the design-builder and other project constituents.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the work in conformance with project requirements and provide reports to all required team members.
  • Issue clear field observations with photo documentation, location references, and drawing/spec citations; track actions to closure with verified evidence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or a relevant field of study.
  • Professional Architectural License is desirable.
  • Previous experience working with New York City agencies preferred.
  • Previous experience with high-rise construction and/or major public projects.
  • Previous experience with Design-Build.
  • Strong verbal and written skills in a client-facing capacity.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience reviewing and interpreting contract documents, performing field inspections/spot checks, documenting conditions, and reporting results.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, including managing a team and driving project results.
  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous focused learning and skill development, including emerging technologies and tools.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.

Pay

Compensation range: $58–$70 per hour. The range reflects the salary the firm in good faith believes it is willing to pay at the time of posting. Exact compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and client approval.

The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
