Design Leader (General Interest)

The Design Leader (General Interest) position is based in the United States and is being managed by a partner company. This role is designed for an experienced design executive who wants to shape meaningful products, brands, and experiences while contributing to purpose-driven organizations.

Responsibilities

• Help organizations define their creative direction, strengthen their design capabilities, and build teams that deliver exceptional experiences.
• Lead strategic initiatives across product, brand, and experience design while promoting collaborative and human-centered approaches.
• Define and champion design vision and strategy across products, brands, and customer experiences.
• Build, lead, mentor, and scale high-performing design teams across multiple disciplines.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, marketing, and executive teams to deliver holistic business and customer outcomes.
• Establish design systems, frameworks, and processes that improve creativity, consistency, and operational effectiveness.
• Create and nurture design cultures based on empathy, authenticity, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
• Translate complex challenges and business objectives into clear, impactful design solutions.
• Advocate for user-centered design principles and meaningful customer experiences.
• Support leadership teams in integrating creativity, awareness, and intentional decision-making into organizational practices.
• Encourage environments built on trust, collaboration, and shared ownership.
• Contribute strategic guidance to organizations seeking to evolve their design capabilities.

Requirements

• The ideal candidate is a senior design leader with experience building teams, shaping design strategies, and delivering innovative experiences.
• You should combine strong design expertise with strategic thinking, leadership ability, and a commitment to creating values-aligned organizations.
• 6+ years of experience in senior design leadership positions such as Chief Design Officer, VP of Design, Head of Product Design, or Head of Brand Design.
• Proven experience scaling design teams and leading multidisciplinary creative organizations.
• Strong track record delivering innovative products, services, or brand experiences.
• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and transform vision into actionable strategies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with experience influencing executive teams.
• Deep understanding of human-centered design principles and customer-focused methodologies.
• Passion for developing teams, mentoring talent, and building strong design cultures.
• Values-driven mindset with a commitment to personal growth, self-awareness, and continuous learning.
• Able to connect creative excellence with business objectives and measurable impact.
• Experience with purpose-driven organizations, conscious leadership, regenerative design, or systems thinking is a plus.
