Design Engineering Project Manager

About the role
The Design Engineering Project Manager will plan, establish, and manage product design projects within the Design Engineering group, collaborating with key stakeholders including Strategy, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Operations, and Manufacturing. This role requires an engineering background to effectively work with both technical and non-technical teams, leading projects of varying sizes and complexities to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
Responsibilities
- Communicate project objectives aligned with the organization’s strategic business goals, sponsor, and portfolio.
- Provide guidance and motivation to project teams, aligning them with customer needs by establishing milestones, goals, and objectives based on input from all functional areas and stakeholders.
- Coordinate business requirements gathering, documentation, and stakeholder approval.
- Convert requirements into tasks and determine task priorities for individual team members and the project.
- Review project schedules with functional project managers to identify and coordinate resources necessary to meet project requirements.
- Ensure project scope, deliverables, and costs are agreed upon by stakeholders.
- Balance cost, schedule, and time frames against project requirements.
- Proactively drive tasks to completion in accordance with the project schedule to ensure work is on-track and on-budget.
- Define and manage resource capacity and time tracking.
- Identify potential problem areas and implement alternative solutions.
- Serve as the escalation point to define and mitigate overall project risk through conflict and issue resolution.
- Manage project change control processes to ensure alignment of scope, schedules, budgets, and resources.
- Provide regular updates to key stakeholders on project performance, variances, and corrective actions.
- Drive relevant, concise, and effective project communication through diverse mediums to varied audiences.
- Act as a liaison between Design Engineering and other cross-functional teams for project intake, prioritization, progress, and completion.
- Quantify and manage the project’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) within scope, schedule, cost, and quality constraints.
- Participate in the exchange of ideas and information within the Design Engineering team and the company.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- BS degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience leading projects of medium size and/or scope with complex matrixed teams.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Experience in a manufacturing, shop floor environment, with knowledge of product design and manufacturing execution systems.
- Proficiency with project management software including MS Teams and Project.
- Ability to influence and motivate teams without direct authority to complete work in a timely manner.
- Advanced soft skills, highly organized with acute attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical, self-motivated, creative, and efficient at problem-solving.
- Collaborative in driving decisions and able to engage with all levels of management and stakeholders.
