Design Engineering Co-op (North Carolina State University)
About the role
As an intern with the Electrification and Automation (EA) division of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting power distribution systems that keep the world running today, while also being exposed to our Future Grids technologies that are shaping the power systems of tomorrow - all within a collaborative, impact-driven environment. We are seeking qualified candidates to join our Design Engineering Summer – Fall Co-op beginning in May 2027. This position will be based at our Wendell, North Carolina office location.
You'll make an impact by
- Supporting development and product care projects that contribute to new product development and product improvements
- Measuring and modeling switchgear to support engineering and design activities
- Designing and drafting new mechanical components
- Supporting prototype assembly, test object configuration, and material sample testing activities
- Releasing parts into the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for use in production
Basic qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering field
- Basic knowledge of engineering and manufacturing principles, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to read and understand technical drawings and documentation
- Ability to work on-site full-time (40 hours per week) during the Summer and Fall 2027 semesters
- Candidates must be enrolled with the North Carolina State University co-op program
- Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide relocation support
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
- This co-op is a structured experiential learning program for individuals currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program who will continue their studies following the assignment. Current and continuing enrollment is a condition of participation
Preferred qualifications
- Experience applying mechanical design fundamentals to create new parts and components
- Experience with hands-on assembly, testing, or evaluation of material samples
- Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams
- Interest in engineering design, drafting, and product development activities
