Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer to help with the design and analysis of mechanical structures and components. This role involves developing innovative products using 3D modeling software and ensuring design accuracy through testing and analysis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Help with inventory reduction by determining how existing inventory parts can be adapted to be used on new production builds.
- Ownership of design and analysis of mechanical structures and components.
- Deep understanding of Bill of Material (BOM) structures.
- Develop new products using 3D solid modeling software (SolidWorks).
- Create detail drawings of 3D models (SolidWorks).
- Work with procurement team to order prototype parts and manage creation of prototypes.
- Create test procedures and work with testing department to implement functional, structural, and stability testing.
- Make modifications to new designs based on results of testing.
- Evaluate machine weight and balance for road worthiness and crane stability.
- Create sales support drawings.
- Analyze product failures, develop repairs and redesign accordingly.
- Aid technical publications in creation of manuals (parts books, service manuals, operator manuals).
- ECR review and recommend approval/rejection.
- ECO creation and give recommendations on implementation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- FE certificate.
- Proficient in engineering design software – 3D and 2D (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Structural Design – Welded steel structures.
- Understanding and use of MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Infor, xetc).
Working Conditions
This job will be performed in an office setting. Operation and review of construction equipment may be occasionally required. Proper training will be provided prior to operation if necessary.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit in office setting and perform computer work.
- Ability to walk shop floor with workers and see issues firsthand.
