About the role
The Automation Design Engineer is integral to creating lasting value for manufacturing clients by designing and implementing automation solutions. This role collaborates with Solution Architects to develop advanced automation technologies that optimize production processes and achieve client goals.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with customers and team members to gather information for functional descriptions, scopes of work, requests for proposals, system designs, and solutions.
- Travel to customer sites as required.
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes and production metrics to recommend process improvements, new technologies, and methods to maximize operational efficiency, reduce costs, and increase productivity.
- Prepare competitively priced solutions while maximizing company profitability.
- Present designs and solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the team to create and maintain automation standards.
- Support other engineers, managers, and the sales team.
- Research and evaluate new technologies and solutions to meet evolving market demands.
- Identify areas to build efficiencies in analyzing, designing, and implementing solutions.
- Prepare documentation, such as testing protocols and manuals.
- Ensure compliance with industry safety standards.
- Prepare and maintain detailed and accurate reports on activities.
- Create models and drawings of products and systems.
- Assist in training the sales team on products and solutions.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Consistently work indoors and in an office environment.
- Frequently sitting, working with hands, talking, hearing, and collaborating with others.
- Some standing, walking, working alone, and customer contact.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, rushing, bending at the waist, twisting upper body, kneeling, crouching, reaching, driving, non-standard shift work, extended days, and travel.
