Design Engineer Manager

About the role

The Design Engineer Manager at Great Dane is responsible for overseeing various engineering projects, processes, budgets, and timelines. This position requires managing engineers in the design of complex parts and assemblies, understanding stress/thermal analysis, and working closely with vendors and customers.

Responsibilities

• Manage engineers in the design complex parts and assemblies using Catia/SolidWorks, or other tools as needed with minimal guidance from management.
• Understand stress/thermal analysis on parts and complex assemblies using classical and numerical FEA methods.
• Monitor and report results of all small-scale tests as well as large scale tests.
• Travel to manufacturing plants to assist implementation of new designs and processes.
• Work with vendors to obtain required materials.
• Meet with customers and make presentations with minimal support from Sales personnel.
• Supervise and mentor Design Engineers on large projects.
• Write material specifications.
• Use product and market knowledge to propose new methods, materials, and products.
• Maintain technical competency.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: BSME / BSMET or higher.
• Experience: Minimum seven years’ experience in highway trailer engineering (or equivalent).
• Skills: Skilled in engineering fields related to trailer design and advanced methods. Uses new or established procedures as well as having great latitude to develop new designs, assemblies, and methods to evaluate. Engineering capabilities expected of a graduate engineer plus ability to manage engineering teams.
• Physical/Mental Requirements: Office and plant environment. Keyboarding, lifting, standing, bending, walking.
