About the Role
The Design Engineer II performs complex calculations, drawings, and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, or other mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
Responsibilities
- Performs complex modeling, drawings, and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, or other systems.
- Conducts advanced calculations for projects, including heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, and hydraulic calculations.
- Prepares preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
- May oversee a single phase of a project.
- Provides guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Performs on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
- Assists in writing technical narratives and responses to RFIs.
- Ensures code compliance for all designs.
Requirements
- Four-year degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in engineering design.
- Basic knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, as well as a general understanding of system operations.
- Ability to read construction documents.
- Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
- Proficiency in CADD and Microsoft Office products, including Excel.
