Design Engineer II
How You Will Make An Impact
The Design Engineer II is responsible for executing the engineering change process (ECR/ECO/ECN), maintaining the ECR log, setting priorities, and supporting the implementation of engineering changes through cross-functional coordination. Responsibilities will encompass creating or modifying drawings, bills of material, and other supporting documentation from a customer specification or sales order. Applies engineering principles to assigned projects and exhibits technical and operational efficiency in solving problems of moderate complexity.
The Nuts and Bolts
Design custom parts and assemblies for integration into vocational vehicles while meeting customer, technical, manufacturing, and regulatory requirements. Review and analyze specifications, drawings, supplier information, and manufacturing requirements to evaluate design impact, cost, quality, manufacturability, and implementation requirements. Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and Operations to develop, review, and implement product changes, including ECR/ECO processing, impact assessments, BOM updates, and engineering releases. Support lean manufacturing, design standardization, VA/VE initiatives, and continuous improvement projects that enhance product quality, efficiency, and cost performance. Manage multiple engineering projects, change requests, and product support activities while meeting established timelines and priorities. Provide technical support to Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Procurement through problem-solving, supplier collaboration, and production support. Develop innovative design solutions that improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, product quality, cost, and customer experience. Create and maintain SolidWorks 3D models, drawings, bills of material, and engineering documentation in accordance with revision control and document management procedures.
Required Credentials
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Seven (7) years of experience in sheet metal product design and manufacturing (with BSME preferred)
- SolidWorks Certifications preferred
- Excellent working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, welding, assembly processes, and design for manufacturability
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and engineering document control practices
- Proficient in SolidWorks, EPDM/PDM, and document management systems
