About the role
The Design Engineer II in Warroad, MN for Ultimate Door R&D supports the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of Ultimate Door products. This role applies engineering principles, product knowledge, and analytical problem-solving to ensure strong alignment between product design intent, manufacturability, performance, quality, and the voice of the customer.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering design and production support for Ultimate Door products developed and supported in Warroad, but produced in Ripley TN.
- Create, update, and maintain accurate 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
- Develop and implement design changes using sound engineering judgment; write, execute, and track ECN and ECI tasks while ensuring changes are properly documented and communicated to stakeholders.
- Serve as a key engineering contributor for product design, engineering prints, technical clarification, and issue resolution related to Ultimate Door products.
- Support prototype builds, product testing, design verification, and validation activities for new and existing product designs.
- Analyze production, field, and quality feedback to identify design improvements, documentation gaps, and opportunities to improve product robustness.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, product management, and cross-functional teams in Ripley TN to support effective product development, launch, and implementation.
- Document requests, issues, engineering decisions, test observations, and implemented changes with clear visual and written communication.
- Communicate product design activity, technical recommendations, risks, and tradeoffs with cross-functional departments.
- Support implementation of engineering changes within manufacturing processes, quality systems, documentation systems, and product configuration controls.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience applying engineering principles to product design, problem solving, testing, and manufacturing support.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawing creation, preferably using Inventor, Creo, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
- Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection, design for manufacturability, and engineering change control.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production environments, product validation, and quality systems.
- Excellent technical communication skills with the ability to explain engineering concepts, risks, and recommendations across teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills.
Qualifications
