About the role

The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and documentation of low to medium voltage switchgear and power distribution systems. They must ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, customer requirements, and MCM quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical switchgear systems including – general requirements, elevation and plan views, one-line diagrams, schematics, and control circuits.
  • Select and specify electrical components such as breakers, relays, CTs, PTs, bus bars, and protective devices.
  • Create and revise engineering drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, E-Plan).
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, UL, IEEE).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical designers, project managers, and manufacturing teams.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and provide technical input during submittal, production, and post-shipment phases.
  • Maintain project documentation and provide timely updates to project stakeholders.

Experience & Education

  • A Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, or an Electrical Emphasis of a more General Engineering degree.
  • A technical degree or certificate with a minimum of three years’ relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in switchgear or power distribution equipment design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, E-Plan, and Microsoft software.
  • Familiarity with low and medium voltage systems (up to 38kV).
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection and control systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing or field service of switchgear.

Work Environment

The Design Engineer is self-directed, able to work autonomously or with limited direct supervision, receives general instructions on new assignments. The typical work week is 40 hours. This is an on-site position unless approved by management due to a major life change. Willingness to work 10% overtime as needed. Travel is not required for this position.

QMS Responsibilities

- Ensure that the QMS confirms to ISO 9001:2015
- Ensure processes are delivering intended outcomes
- Report to Top Management on the performance of the QMS; on opportunities for improvement; on change requirements; on innovations
- Ensure the promotion of customer focus
- Ensure the integrity of the QMS is maintained
