Contract to Hire position based in Charlotte, NC.

About the role

Join a dynamic team as a Design Engineer, developing innovative system components and assembly designs. This hands-on role involves 75% CAD design work and includes prototyping, stress analysis, and ensuring safety and cost-effective solutions. You will oversee the engineering process from design through manufacturing, installation, production, and support, working in a project-driven environment where large conveyor systems are designed, built, and tested on-site. The company is family-owned, values teamwork and innovation, and holds several patents.

Responsibilities

  • Design system components and assemblies with a focus on aesthetics, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct prototyping and stress analysis to ensure design robustness.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors to request quotes and approve components.
  • Prepare and approve technical drawings and documentation, including bill of materials and revisions.
  • Oversee the engineering process from design through to manufacturing, installation, production, and support.
  • Engage in hands-on manufacturing of design prototypes.
  • Contribute to system engineering, standard design modifications, and installation drawings.
  • Provide engineering support during installations and follow-up activities.
  • Assist with sales demonstrations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or an Associate's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and measure accurately using a ruler and calipers.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical codes and ability to use hand, power, and machine tools.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Skills

  • Passion for design and automation.
  • Experience with CAD and automation.
  • Hands-on approach to building and testing prototypes.
  • Team-oriented with excellent communication skills.
