Design/Construction Project Manager V - Honolulu HI

About the Role

This technical/functional leader oversees all phases of the design and/or construction process for complex construction and refurbishment projects, typically in the range of $100–150 million in cumulative budget responsibility. Responsibilities include defining project parameters (time, budget, objectives, constraints), leading cross-functional project teams, establishing and maintaining scope, budget, and schedule commitments, and ensuring Kaiser Permanente’s client service goals are met throughout the design and construction lifecycle.

The role also involves providing guidance during all design stages of medical and regional facilities, making economic comparisons of development schemes, negotiating fees and contracts, reviewing and approving invoices and change orders, securing permits from regulatory authorities, and supervising on-site teams while communicating project status to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Promote learning and collaboration by communicating project information, providing actionable feedback, and mentoring junior team members.

• Partner internally and externally to drive effective business decisions, determine processes, and escalate high-priority issues or risks.
• Develop work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines; coordinate and delegate resources to accomplish organizational goals.
• Manage multiple large-scale projects from initiation to close-out, with accountability for outcomes.
• Develop, analyze, and manage complex project plans, including scope, schedule, interdependencies, and resource forecasts.
• Monitor project financials, performance (e.g., on time, on budget, within scope, and quality), and business benefits, making adjustments as needed.
• Lead organizational change management activities, such as user adoption, implementation, and training plans.
• Drive resource allocation, establish schedules, and assign tasks to ensure project management best practices are followed.
• Lead large project teams by monitoring internal and external resources and aligning team member skills with project demands.
• Communicate a clear vision of project goals and objectives to the team and deliver performance feedback to supervisors.
• Proactively identify, mitigate, and resolve project risks, issues, and trigger events, including developing mitigation strategies.
• Ensure project activities adhere to Kaiser Permanente, departmental, and business line policies and procedures.
• Align, engage, and secure buy-in from diverse project stakeholders through relationship-building and clear communication.
• Identify and collaborate with key stakeholders based on influence and decision-making authority.
• Provide insight to stakeholders and sponsors by setting project goals, prioritizing deliverables, and facilitating decisions for project delivery.
• Communicate complex or challenging issues to stakeholders while maintaining independent recommendations and delivering formal presentations.
• Review vendor performance and ensure service level agreements are met; partner with Procurement and Legal to develop agreements as needed.
• Participate in contract negotiations and review vendor invoices for accuracy.

Requirements

• Minimum five (5) years of experience in construction and/or design project management.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role, with or without direct reports.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience implementing large, complex projects in a corporate, non-profit, or government environment.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and minimum eight (8) years of experience in project management or a directly related field OR minimum eleven (11) years of experience in project management or a directly related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Four (4) years of experience working in impact spending and sustainability.
• Four (4) years of experience working in an integrated healthcare delivery system.

Location & Schedule

Primary location: Honolulu, Hawaii (Moanalua Medical Offices).

Full-time schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Onsite role with up to 20% travel required.

Pay

Annual salary range: $139,200 – $180,070. Actual base pay determined at offer based on labor market data, internal alignment, and candidate qualifications (e.g., years of experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location).
