About the role

The Deputy Tax Assessor position within the Tax Assessor's Office at Pennsauken Township offers a unique opportunity for individuals with a passion for property tax assessment and administration. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the equitable assessment of taxable property within the township.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Tax Assessor in planning, organizing, and carrying out daily operations of the assessment office.
  • Conducts real property appraisals for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
  • Reviews and interprets architectural and engineering plans to assist in determining property values.
  • Maintains and updates property records, tax maps, and assessment databases in accordance with state and local requirements.
  • Processes and evaluates applications for tax deductions, exemptions, and abatements.
  • Assists in the preparation and defense of assessment appeals at the County and State levels.
  • Responds to inquiries from the public, real estate professionals, and governmental agencies regarding assessments and tax laws.
  • Prepares reports, analyses, and related documentation for the Tax Assessor and governing body.
  • Utilizes appraisal and assessment software systems and maintains related records.
  • Performs related duties as required to support Department operations.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Certified Tax Assessor (CTA) certification.
  • Valid New Jersey driver's license required.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred; relevant real estate appraisal or property tax assessment experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Knowledge of property appraisal principles, mass appraisal techniques, and applicable New Jersey property tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, computer-assisted mass appraisal (CAMA) systems, and New Jersey Property Tax System (MOD IV).
  • Strong organizational, mathematical, written, and verbal communication skills required.

Schedule

The Deputy Tax Assessor position is full-time, Monday through Friday, with a work schedule of 35 hours per week.
