Job Description
The Deputy Station Manager supports day-to-day operations of the Centralized Inspection Facility (CIF) and serves as the acting lead in the Station Manager’s absence. This role helps ensure safe, compliant, efficient inspection operations while delivering a high-quality customer experience and supporting station performance goals (safety, budget, and inspections).
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Station Manager in achieving station safety, budget, and inspection performance targets.
- Maintain a safe, productive work environment for all employees.
- Ensure inspection lanes operate efficiently and in accordance with SOPs and program requirements.
- Complete and submit accident reports in accordance with current SOP.
- Own customer service goals and help drive consistent, professional service across the station.
- Investigate and resolve customer inquiries, comments, or compliments as needed.
- Explain emissions and safety inspection results to motorists when additional clarification is requested.
- Evaluate lane technicians on customer service performance under the Station Manager’s direction.
- Ensure lane technicians process and collect required inspection documentation (e.g., Emissions Repair Forms, repair receipts, and related paperwork).
- Issue waivers to qualifying vehicles in accordance with applicable regulations and program requirements.
- Aid in payroll and timekeeping activities.
- Support interviewing and hiring activities as directed by the Station Manager.
- Monitor, evaluate, and document employee performance.
- Conduct disciplinary investigations and determine appropriate actions as directed by the Station Manager.
- Promote positive employee morale and maintain strong public relations between the company and customers.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to drive vehicles with a manual transmission
- Must possess and maintain a New Jersey Vehicle Inspector’s License
- Ability to meet and complete Parsons training requirements
- Automotive and instrumentation aptitude
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree; advanced training a plus
- 2+ years of management/supervisory experience in an automotive environment
- Bilingual skills preferred
