About the role

This position ensures the safety of the Gila County community through evidence-based practices in the management and support of officers responsible for administering case supervision. It performs administrative duties in planning, developing, organizing, directing, and coordinating the activities of both the Juvenile and Adult Divisions of the Probation Department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the administration of the department and in the development and evaluation of policies and procedures.
  • Assign work to employees and supervise related activities, including scheduling work hours, evaluating performance, granting time off, and coaching.
  • Make final decisions on hiring recommendations, employee grievances, training, promotions, salary increases, disciplinary actions, and discharges.
  • Staff cases with probation officers, ensuring the use of evidence-based practices and principles.
  • Utilize State and National record systems, assessments, and screening tools.
  • Approve work schedules, maintain office coverage, prioritize and assign cases and projects.
  • Counsel, coach, train, and instruct employees; review case reports and files; complete performance appraisals and document corrective actions.
  • Manage daily operations through delegation, managerial support, and work supervision; recommend and implement solutions for standardized operations.
  • Develop and enhance cooperative professional relationships with community resource agencies, Court Administration, and regional law enforcement and justice agencies.
  • Participate in the creation of departmental procedures and operational practices.
  • Retrieve statistical information, administer budgets, and create reports.
  • Serve as a member of the departmental administrative team and perform special assignments.
  • Participate in annual budget planning and preparation; monitor and prepare statistical reports required by the Administrative Office of the Courts for both Adult and Juvenile Divisions.
  • Prepare and negotiate State and Federal grants, monitoring compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Ensure effective communication with Probation and Law Enforcement agencies; coordinate with agencies providing contracted services.
  • Facilitate departmental court representation; update and maintain a variety of documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
