Duties
- Supervise the caseloads of assigned probationers
- Meet with probationers in their homes or at their places of school/work
- Conduct interviews and social or presentence/pre-disposition investigations
- Evaluate probationers' progress
- Perform searches and make arrests
- Direct and counsel probationers and parents/guardians when supervising juveniles
- Build relationships to encourage compliance with the case plan
- Direct and/or refer probationers and parents/guardians to community resources, treatments, or other interventions
- Participate in case review conferences to determine if changes in supervision are warranted
- Obtain, assemble, secure, keep, and file a complete identification record concerning the person on probation
- Monitor payment of restitution and probation fees and ensure victims' notification rights are provided
- Investigate cases referred to the officer and make a written report to the court
- Perform searches, breathalyzers/urinalysis collection, and make a documented effort to locate absconders
- Serve warrants, make arrests, and bring persons before the court who are on probation, including defaulting probationers facing revocation
- Appear and testify in court
- Appropriately and effectively respond to confrontational situations with probationers or others
- Use defensive tactics and techniques, including:
- Forcefully raise arms above head (straight arm wristlock and takedown)
- Perform minor aerobic activity
- Stand for up to 2 hours at a time
- Engage in balanced movements
- Throw hand strikes (fist strikes and palm heel strikes)
- Use impact weapons (ability to swing arms in a striking action with a baton that weighs 16 ounces)
- Kick at targets below 24 (front snap kicks)
- Perform controlled falls and return to standing position unassisted (break falls and recovery)
- Complete hand strikes and kick drills at partial speed
- Sustain exposure to Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray
- Engage in fighting techniques while on the ground
- Bend knees lower center and touch the ground with one hand (break fall recovery and baton closing techniques)
- Bend knees to a 45 degree angle (all ground techniques)
Requirements
The position requires a valid Arizona Driver's License and a valid Arizona Peace Officer's Certification.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a related field is required. A Master's degree may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.
Skills
Knowledge of evidence-based practices and the Arizona Code of Judicial Administration.
