Deputy Probation Officer I (Residential Treatment/Detention Services) - Lateral

Responsibilities

  • Assist and advise youth on redirecting behavior into positive, pro-social channels.
  • Serve as a sworn Peace Officer overseeing the care, safety, and control of probation youth in residential treatment facilities or juvenile halls.
  • Conduct life-skills assessments for probation youth.
  • Provide casework services to support rehabilitation efforts.
  • Ensure dorm and facility security.
  • Restrain combative youth, when necessary.
  • Assist in re-socialization efforts for probation youth.

Requirements

  • Candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Currently hold a position equivalent to Deputy Probation Officer I, RT/DS in California (outside of LA County) for at least one year.
  • Completion of Juvenile Corrections Officer CORE training and PC 832.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment.
