About the role
The City of Redmond is seeking a Deputy Police Chief to lead and oversee operations and staff for assigned divisions. The position requires strong leadership, discretion, and collaboration with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Acts on behalf of the Police Chief in carrying out departmental responsibilities.
- Oversees and directs assigned divisions, ensuring compliance with departmental goals and regulations.
- Develops and implements departmental budgets and manages financial resources.
- Serves as a liaison between the department and local, state, and federal agencies.
- Takes command responsibilities during critical incidents and collaborates with the Police Chief in strategic planning.
- Manages staff through selection, training, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
- Communicates with the public and internal partners regarding departmental activities and initiatives.
- Assists in the development and implementation of the department’s strategic direction.
- Provides professional advice to city officials and participates in community meetings and regional committees.
Requirements
- Seven years (ten years preferred) of progressive leadership experience in a public safety environment.
- Three years (five years preferred) of progressive supervisory/managerial experience.
- Advanced leadership knowledge and experience.
- Basic Law Enforcement certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
- Law Enforcement Supervisor or Middle Management Certificate or equivalent.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license.
- Basic Law Enforcement certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
- Successfully qualified with the department issued handgun.
- Meets the required physical and medical standards of all civil service requirements.
Qualifications
- Education and experience: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public administration, or related field preferred; advanced degree desired.
- Certificates or licenses such as FBI Academy, Drucker Executive Leadership Institute, PERF’s Senior Management Institute of Police, or similar preferred.
