About the role

The Indiana Inspector General is responsible for investigating and addressing fraud, waste, abuse, and wrongdoing in any agency within the executive branch of Indiana state government. The State Ethics Commission handles specific types of cases not within the Inspector General's jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  • Draft informal advisory opinions, analyzing complex ethics laws and factual scenarios.
  • Evaluate evidence in investigative cases and draft recommendations and reports on disposition of cases.
  • Assist in screening complaints and responding to reporting parties with additional resources as appropriate.
  • Participate in the delivery of all OIG training activities, including participating in live presentations in conference settings.
  • Conduct legal research and draft reports, legal memoranda, and other legal documents.
  • Aid in the drafting, promulgation, and readoption of administrative rules and the review of legislative bills.
  • Represent the OIG in cases litigated before the SEC (alleged ethics violations).
  • Aid in the presentation of OIG cases to county prosecutors for consideration of criminal charge filing, working in concert with prosecuting attorneys' offices and staff.
  • Aid in collection efforts on behalf of OIG and SEC.

Requirements

  • Licensed attorney in good standing with Indiana Bar Admission.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply relevant statutes, case law, and rules.
  • Ability to understand and observe the Indiana Administrative Orders and Procedures Act under IC 4-21.5.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and litigation skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

  • Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Conducting thorough internal investigations related to compliance and ethics violations.
  • Drafting investigation reports and recommending corrective actions.
  • Developing and delivering training programs on compliance and ethics.
  • Knowledge of and experience in legal proceedings and enabling statutes of the OIG and SEC.
  • Thorough knowledge of state government organization and procedures as well as state statutes, rules, and law governing areas of responsibility.

Pay

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $85,020.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
