Deputy Group Leader (Training Manager 3)
About the Role
The Readiness & Training (RT) group is seeking a motivated and experienced manager to lead the development and implementation of training programs for the nuclear operations workforce. As Deputy Group Leader for the Operations and Nuclear Safety Training (RT-ONST) group, you will collaborate with institutional and federal leadership to provide training, qualifications, processes, and policies for personnel supporting operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This role involves facilitating a customer-service model that ensures centralized coordination, management, and tracking of training needs.
Responsibilities
- Identify and assess training needs to align programs with organizational strategy and lab agenda.
- Implement group training programs addressing organizational needs through job analysis, career development, and consultation with managers.
- Ensure effective training methods evaluate organizational performance, assess skills, and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor organizational and instructor performance to ensure training meets needs and improves performance.
- Select and manage resources, including internal employees and external vendors, for training development and delivery.
- Provide guidance on training policies and programs.
- Manage technologies and technical personnel required for training development, management, and delivery.
- Oversee the development of training materials, multimedia aids, and educational resources.
- Implement best training practices through collaborations with the DOE National Training Center, TRIAD partners, and local universities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Group Leader.
Requirements
- Training Management:
- In-depth knowledge and experience with LANL’s learning management system (UTrain LMS) or DOE/industry equivalent.
- Experience managing training under DOE Order 426.2 or industry equivalent.
- Proficiency in Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) and tools for developing formal training programs.
- Experience developing, monitoring, and evaluating leadership training.
- Collaborative experience with training organizations for service delivery improvement and culture change.
- Technical Expertise:
- Demonstrated ability in developing, organizing, scheduling, and managing training programs.
- Skill in management, supervision, and human resources administration of employees and staff.
- Communications/Relationship Management:
- Experience identifying problem areas and determining solutions for operations management.
- Experience in budget preparation and management.
- Proven success interfacing with stakeholders at all levels, including management, NNSA/DOE staff, vendors, and customers.
Qualifications
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additionally:
- 4 years of job-related experience and 2 years of nuclear experience (426.2A requirement).
- Coursework in education or training focusing on instructional analysis, design, development, delivery, testing, and evaluation of training programs if not included in the degree.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience managing training under LANL’s Conduct of Training policies or DOE/industry equivalent.
- Excellent oral and written report preparation and presentation skills.
- Experience conducting critiques, root cause analyses, lessons learned, and corrective actions.
- In-depth knowledge of LANL budget implementation and practices.
- Active Q clearance.
Work Location
This position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. Work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details
This position requires a Q clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship. Selected applicants will undergo a background investigation. The position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A and may be eligible for the Triad Incentive Compensation Program after 3 months in an eligible role.
