Deputy Director

About the role

Erie County is seeking a Deputy Director to assist with the coordination and administration of county planning programs. This position supports municipal planning, land use and zoning, comprehensive planning, community development, and collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Planning Director with planning programs and projects.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive plans, ordinances, and regulations.
• Conduct research and prepare reports, plans, and presentations.
• Support land use, zoning, community, transportation, and environmental planning.
• Assist with grants, public meetings, and community engagement.
• Supervise, mentor, and provide direction to staff as needed.
• Assume the duties of the Planning Director in their absence.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning or a related field.
• 2+ years of professional planning experience.
• 1+ year of management, leadership, or related experience/education.
• Valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

Preferred: AICP certification and 2+ years of leadership/management experience.
