Deputy Branch Chief, Operations, Transitions and Logistics SYD 84.

This position is located at Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado, supporting SYD 84 (NH-0301-04, GS 14 equivalent).

About the Role

As the Civilian Deputy for SYD 84 Operations, Transition, & Logistics branch (SYD 84/S34), you will directly interface with USSF operators and end-users to ensure the successful delivery of space-based missile warning and tracking capabilities to warfighters. This role bridges the gap between acquisition programs and operations by coordinating transition-to-operations efforts, test and evaluation, launch campaigns, and logistics activities among multiple USSF FIELDCOM and Combatant Command stakeholders. The position is critical to national defense and strategic deterrence and includes direct supervisory responsibilities for government civilians and potentially military members.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate operates independently, integrates into working groups and integrated product teams, and builds relationships with acquisition program office personnel at Los Angeles Air Force Base and operational stakeholders across the Colorado Front Range. Desired experience includes 10-15 years in space acquisition and/or space operations, preferably with Missile Warning & Tracking (MWT) / Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems. Candidates should possess both business operations and technical skillsets to enable the delivery of MWT/OPIR systems into operations, along with past supervisory/managerial experience overseeing civilian and/or military personnel.

Responsibilities

• Ensure successful delivery of space-based missile warning and tracking capabilities to warfighters.
• Coordinate transition-to-operations efforts, test and evaluation, launch campaigns, and logistics activities.
• Lead and supervise government civilians and potentially military members.
• Develop and articulate effective policies, goals, and sound management practices.
• Analyze information, identify new developments or issues, and direct appropriate program and policy actions.
• Direct and support space surveillance test programs, on-orbit operations, and event reporting.
• Lead multi-discipline organizations, including space operations specialists, engineers, logisticians, and program/project managers.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret / SCI security clearance.
• May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft for TDY assignments (approximately 20 days per year).
• May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
• Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM-prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
• PCS / Relocation funding is authorized.
• Must file an OGE-450, “Confidential Financial Disclosure Report,” within 30 days of assuming the position and annually thereafter.
• Must attend annual ethics and procurement integrity training.
• This is a drug-testing designated position; incumbent is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree at minimum; master’s degree preferred in a relevant field of study.
• Comprehensive knowledge of space-based warning systems and their deployment to meet operational requirements.
• Knowledge of resource management, including planning, programming, budgeting, appropriation, funding, and accounting processes.
• Broad understanding of interrelated activities and statutory/regulatory requirements.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Ability to develop and articulate policies, goals, and management practices.
• Experience directing and supporting space surveillance test programs, on-orbit operations, and event reporting.
• Demonstrated leadership of multi-discipline organizations (e.g., space operations specialists, engineers, logisticians, program/project managers).
