Job Responsibilities

You will be part of a high performing team, instrumental in helping maintain the safety and security of the Laboratory's Category-1 nuclear facility, the most secure area within the laboratory.

Working in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment, you will need to have a keen eye for detail, maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude, and ensure all LANL and federal security requirements are met while optimizing efficiency/success for the important work being accomplished.

More importantly, you must be able to demonstrate and promote self-responsibility and accountability for safety, security, quality, and environmental standards in all operations.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of the major security areas - classified matter protection and control, information security, physical security, computer security, and personnel security.
  • Demonstrated experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions on problems affecting security and safeguards.
  • Experience and skill in the preparation and presentation of security and safeguards reports to internal organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security and safeguards policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to write and implement procedures, policies, guides or other formal documents, demonstrating compliance with security requirements.
  • Demonstrated intangible character traits of initiative, teamwork, independent judgment, professionalism and tact.

Education and Experience

  • Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, or Security related field, and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience, working at a Category-1 nuclear or similar facility.
  • Experienced in sensitive facility security operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with security assessments and risk management processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) security and safeguards policies, practices and procedures.
  • Experience in formal causal analysis practices.
  • Experience with the mission and organization of the Laboratory and ALDDP.
  • Planning and policy implementation experience.
  • Active DOE Q-clearance.
  • Actively enrolled the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
  • Work Schedule

    Selectee may be required to work outside of normal hours, including shift schedules.

    Work Location

    The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

    Position Commitment

    Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

    Minimal travel is anticipated but may be required for training purposes

    Mandatory Clearances

    Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance.
