About the Role

The position functions as a senior data analyst for the Bureau of Child Welfare Improvement (DCQI), responsible for developing reports, spreadsheets, and programs, as well as creating queries for analyzing data, policy, and oversight to assist in decision-making related to the child welfare population.

This role involves analyzing current program operations to recommend policy or procedural changes to child welfare program managers. It also includes providing technical and resource assistance to internal and external partners, such as universities, human welfare foundations, and research agencies, as well as other administrations within MDHHS.

The position develops and manages databases, making recommendations to child welfare managers and division directors for monitoring program design and resource needs. It assists in the development of data delivery systems for MDHHS and handles internal and external data requests. Additionally, the role provides technical assistance to MDHHS county child care workers and private agency child welfare workers regarding specific Child Welfare data reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop reports, spreadsheets, and programs for data analysis.
  • Create queries to analyze data, policy, and oversight for child welfare programs.
  • Analyze current program operations and recommend policy or procedure changes.
  • Provide technical and resource assistance to internal and external partners, including universities, foundations, and research agencies.
  • Develop, manage, and recommend improvements for databases related to child welfare programs.
  • Assist in the development of data delivery systems for MDHHS.
  • Handle internal and external requests for MDHHS data.
  • Provide technical assistance to county child care workers and private agency child welfare workers regarding Child Welfare data reporting.

Requirements

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

  • Three years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced (P11) level in state service.
  • Selective Position Requirement:
    • Three years of experience in a child welfare service such as Foster Care, Adoption, Licensing, Children's Protective Services, or Juvenile Justice, and at least one year of experience with the MiSACWIS application, or
    • Two years of experience developing Structured Query Language (SQL) or Visual Basic Applications (VBA).

Additional Information

This position is located at 235 S. Grand Ave., Lansing, MI, with the ability to work hybrid (remote/office). Selected candidates approved for hybrid work must complete that work within Michigan.
