About the role
The Department Support Assistant position at MercyOne Newton Medical Center supports the nursing unit by performing clerical tasks, maintaining charts, answering phones, and coordinating communications.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and sorts patient charts and distributes mail.
- Utilizes computer applications and communication technologies effectively.
- Communicates patient information and department needs to other hospital departments.
- Maintains a safe, organized work environment by ordering and stocking supplies.
- Identifies and reports problems with supplies or equipment, and conducts environmental rounding.
- Prepares documents and records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates adherence to safety, security, and infection control policies, including the Safe Medication Handling protocol.
- Conducts audits of records, data, and transactions as requested by the unit management team.
- Manages meeting room schedules as needed.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Skills
- Proficiency with computer applications and communication technologies.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Attention to detail and organizational abilities.
