About the role
The Department Support Assistant position at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center supports the nursing unit by performing clerical tasks and coordinating communications.
Responsibilities
- Maintains charts and answers multi-line phones.
- Greets and assists customers in a friendly and timely manner.
- Sorts and distributes mail.
- Utilizes computer applications and communication technologies effectively.
- Communicates patient information or department needs such as dietary, environmental services, and IT issues.
- Maintains a safe, neat, and organized work environment by ordering and stocking supplies, forms, and equipment.
- Identifies and reports problems with supplies or equipment; enters repair requests; and conducts environmental rounding.
- Prepares documents and records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates work practices consistent with safety, security, and infection control policies, including adhering to the Safe Medication Handling protocol for both delivery and removal of medications.
- Counsults with unit management team to conduct auditing of records, data, and transactions.
- Conducts meetings and prepares meeting room schedules.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
Skills
- Proficiency in computer applications (Electronic Health Records, etc.).
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
