This role is all about helping people. You’ll work directly with Michigan residents to review their requests, check eligibility, and make sure their applications meet requirements. You’ll process a variety of transactions, answer questions, and help customers understand different services and online options. Schedule
To be considered for this position, you must be available to work any of the following days and hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship (required for Security Checked Positions; employment may be terminated if proof cannot be verified by the first day of employment)
- Pass a pre-employment drug test (Civil Service Commission Rule 2-7)
- Pass a criminal background check (required due to the nature of the Department of State’s work; any position offer is conditional until results confirm eligibility)
- For CDL Knowledge Test Examiner roles:
- Pass a nationwide criminal history background check (per the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Enhancement Act and FMCSA requirements)
- Complete a formal CDL training course and knowledge test prior to certification
- Pass refresher training and examination every four years
- For Security Checked Positions (SECCHDPOS):
- Pass a thorough background investigation (per Public Act 7 of 2008, Public Act 23 of 2008, and the Memorandum of Agreement between the State of Michigan and the Department of Homeland Security)
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent (typically acquired through completion of high school).
Experience
- 6 Level: No specific type or amount of experience required.
- 7 Level: One year of experience equivalent to a Department of State Aide 6.
- E8 Level: Two years of experience equivalent to a Department of State Aide, including one year equivalent to a Department of State Aide 7.
