About the role

The successful candidate will be required to (a) teach evening courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats in the post-baccalaureate credential and graduate programs including strands in special education foundations and instructional practices for learners with extensive support needs (severe/profound disabilities); (b) supervise and evaluate fieldwork activities, (c) advise credential and graduate students; (d) participate in curriculum development and ongoing program assessment activities; and (e) participate in scholarly activity and service. The successful candidate may be required to teach courses at both the San Bernardino and Palm Desert Campuses.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses as assigned in the Special Education Program
• Serve on departmental, college, and university committees
• Maintain an active research agenda
• Collaborate with program faculty, fieldwork supervisors, and community partners
• Participate in program events, candidate orientations, and required trainings
• Participate in accreditation work for the program
• Use Canvas LMS and other technologies to support hybrid or online instruction
• Uphold the mission and vision of the department, college, and university
• Model culturally sustaining and equity-centered educational practices

Requirements

• Earned doctorate in special education, doctoral students graduating by July 31, 2026 will be considered
• Minimum of three (3) years of public-school teaching experience with students with extensive support needs (severe to profound disabilities)
• Commitment to teaching, research, and service to the university, community, and to the profession
• Strong potential for research and scholarly activity

Qualifications

• Higher education teaching and record of research, and scholarly activities required for appointment at higher rank
• Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued
• Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application
• Potential for program level leadership

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Assistant Professor (Range 3) - $6,221 – $13,224
Associate Professor (Range 4) - $6,825 – $14,523
Professor (Range 5) - $8,593 – $15,211
