Department of Rhetoric & Writing Studies Lecturer Pool 2026-2027
The Department of Rhetoric and Writing Studies in the College of Arts and Letters at San Diego State University is accepting applications for part-time lecturer positions. Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time, and opportunities for teaching during the Fall term (mid-August to late-December) and Spring term (mid-January to mid-May) are available. Summer Sessions opportunities may also be available.
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Rhetoric and Writing Studies or a closely related field
- University teaching experience
- Demonstrated currency in subject matter
- Demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching practices that support learning and engagement for students from different backgrounds and experiences

- Recent student evaluations, ideally within the past three years (for new employees)

- Optional: Letters of recommendation (for new employees)
- Name, phone number, and e-mail address of three professional references (for new employees)
Pay and Schedule
Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work. Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
