Department of Music - Assistant Professor
About the role
The Department of Music at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) seeks an Assistant Professor of Music Therapy to lead the new Bachelor of Music undergraduate program in Music Therapy. This position will include program development, as the program is in its initial stages, as well as liaison responsibilities with sites providing music therapy in the Inland Empire and San Bernardino County.
- Lead and continue to develop CSUSB’s new BA in Music Therapy program.
- Develop the BA in Music Therapy curriculum as needed.
- Teach undergraduate courses in music therapy, as well as additional courses in the Department of Music as needed.
- Recruit and advise all music therapy students.
- Coordinate and supervise internships and clinical fieldwork in music therapy.
- Serve as liaison with clinical supervisors and internship site supervisors, creating and maintaining these relationships.
- Attend all department faculty meetings and serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
- Maintain membership in the American Music Therapy Association.
- Maintain active involvement in research and professional scholarship.
Responsibilities
This position is both student-facing and community-facing, involving student advising and recruiting responsibilities, as well as oversight for music therapy clinical fieldwork and internships. Along with teaching and program-building, this position also supports active involvement in research and professional scholarship.

- Evidence of strong professional clinical and supervision experience.
- Successful teaching experience at the university level.
- An active publication record in scholarship/research.
- Participation in regional and/or national professional organizations.
- Membership in the American Music Therapy Association.
- Exemplary undergraduate-level teaching and leadership experience at the program level.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Evidence of strong professional clinical and supervision experience.
- Successful teaching experience at the university level.

- Participation in regional and/or national professional organizations.
- Membership in the American Music Therapy Association.
- Excellent interpersonal, musical, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued.
- Evidence of exemplary undergraduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Music Therapy.

Special Conditions
- The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
