Brief Description

The Department of Music at Simpson University invites applications for a full-time faculty member (rank open and to be assigned based on qualifications) beginning Fall 2026. This faculty member will teach in-person courses that may include: Music Technology and Recording, Music History, Music Theory (with lab), Introduction to Music, Studio Class (in guitar, piano, vocal, and/or others), Simpson Chorale, and Symphonic Choir, among others.

About the Role

A commitment to the integration of faith into teaching, scholarship, and service at a Christian liberal arts institution is an essential quality of Simpson University faculty. Beyond teaching responsibilities, this position will also be responsible for recruiting students with the expectation of growing Simpson’s music program through a focus on Worship Arts and Commercial Music in alignment with the University’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 units of undergraduate courses each fall and spring semester
  • Prepare and teach undergraduate introductory and upper-level music courses
  • Utilize Canvas for course management and delivery of content
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students in the music major and minor as well as undeclared students
  • Serve on faculty committees
  • Attend meetings and professional development activities
  • Ensure the timely completion of assessments, grades, and other reports
  • Provide administration for the Music department, including assigning adjunct instructors, determining annual program course schedule, engaging in department recruiting efforts, and other administrative duties expected of department chairs
  • Provide music leadership for select University worship experiences (e.g. chapel services, Convocation, Commencement, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Music or related discipline preferred; Masters degree required
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate students
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to engage in both internal and external recruiting for the Music program
  • Evidence of teaching excellence utilizing a variety of teaching modalities
  • Experience working with a diverse student population and a commitment to inclusion and equity
  • A personal commitment to Christ and ability to integrate faith into teaching, scholarship, and service at a Christian liberal arts institution
  • Promising research agenda that supports undergraduate education is desirable
  • Experience in recording technologies (such as Logic, ProTools, Ableton, etc.) preferred

Essential Functions

  • Personal relationship with Jesus, a vibrant Christian faith, and a commitment to Christian community; capable of sharing faith and engaging in conversations about Christ
  • Support the overflow needs of other departments within the respective university area
  • Perform other duties in accordance with this position as deemed necessary by the President

Salary

$70,720.00 - $75,000.00 per annum
