Department of Mathematics Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) Pool: Peer Tutors

About the role

Peer tutors provide walk-in help to students taking mathematics coursework at any level, under the direction of the Math Gym coordinator. The position is located in the Math Gym in Jack Brown Hall.

Responsibilities

• Provide walk-in help to students taking mathematics coursework at any level.
• Work in person in the Math Gym in Jack Brown Hall.
• Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
• Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.

Requirements

• Must be a currently enrolled student in an undergraduate or graduate program at CSUSB.
• Have earned a “B” grade or better in at least two upper division mathematics courses (3000 level or higher).
• Every math course you are interested in tutoring must have been completed with a minimum grade of “B”.
• Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 major GPA.
• Must have the tools (including internet access) needed to conduct tutoring via Zoom, if needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous tutoring experience is preferred.

Special Conditions

• The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
• A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience. (Actual Salary will be in accordance with percentage of time appointed)
