Department of Management Information Systems Assistant Professor Pool (Data Science) 2027-2028
About the role
The Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) in the Fowler College of Business at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Data Science at the assistant professor level. The appointment will begin in August 2027 and is contingent on state funding.
Responsibilities
- Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in data science.
- Contribute to the research and scholarship in the areas of data science/statistics and/or applied AI.
- Engage in campus and professional service activities.
Requirements
- A terminal degree, a doctoral-level degree, in Information Systems or a related discipline by August 2027 with all degree requirements met.
- Demonstrated expertise in Information Systems and its methodologies.
- Strong record of publications, presentations, and/or funding.
- Potential for securing extramural funding.
- Outstanding teaching experience, including teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to direct advanced undergraduate and/or graduate student research.
Qualifications
- A record of original research / scholarly / creative accomplishments and demonstrated capacity to:
- Develop a vigorous and independent program of research / scholarship / creative activity,
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses;
- Engage in both campus and professional service activities.
- Demonstration of past accomplishments and/or future plans in at least two (2) or more of the “Building on Inclusive Excellence” criteria.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in Information Systems and its methodologies.
- Strong record of publications, presentations, and/or funding.
- Potential for securing extramural funding.
- Outstanding teaching experience, including teaching students from diverse backgrounds.

Benefits
The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated salary range is from $148,000 to $158,000. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances.
Schedule
The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
