Department of History Lecturer Pool 2026-2027
About the Role
San Diego State University’s Department of History in the College of Arts and Letters is accepting applications for its part-time lecturer pool. Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time and are often made just prior to the start of the academic term, requiring availability on short notice.
Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, renewable contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work. Applications remain active in the pool for the academic year in which they are submitted.
Teaching opportunities are available during the Fall term (mid-August to late December), Spring term (mid-January to mid-May), and potentially Summer Sessions.
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in History or a related field
- University-level teaching experience
- Demonstrated currency in subject matter
Responsibilities
Lecturers in the Department of History are responsible for teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in their areas of expertise, as assigned by the department.
Pay
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month
- Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211 per month

Applicants must also authorize a background check if selected as a finalist and disclose any final administrative or judicial decisions related to sexual harassment within the last seven years, as required by California law.
