About the Department

The Department of Geography & the Environment is a community of 17 faculty members, 50 graduate students, and over 200 undergraduate students. The department offers a PhD in geography, MA and MS degrees in geography and geographic information science (including an online MSGISc program), and undergraduate degrees in geography, environmental science, sustainability, and geographic information science. About the Role

The Department of Geography & the Environment is accepting expressions of interest for adjunct and faculty overload positions to teach a variety of courses in the 2026-2027 academic year. This posting will be used to create a pool of applicants for potential openings in departmental offerings, including common curriculum or required/elective courses for undergraduate and graduate programs.

Adjunct faculty are required to teach according to the course schedule, hold office hours, assign papers and exams as appropriate, and be available to assist students with assignments.

The University operates on a quarter system:

• Fall 2026: September 8, 2026 – November 20, 2026
• Winter 2027: January 4, 2027 – March 19, 2027
• Spring 2027: March 29, 2027 – June 10, 2027

Adjunct faculty positions are non-benefited. Details of teaching responsibilities will be provided by the department at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Deliver courses in person or online (for certain courses)
• Pivot between teaching modalities on short notice
• Use Canvas LMS (preferred)
• Meet deadlines for submission of course grades
• Provide timely feedback to students regarding their progress
• Lecture continuously for up to two hours at a time

Requirements

• Master’s degree in a related field
• Previous teaching experience
• Ability to teach at the university level

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. or terminal degree in a related field
• College-level teaching experience

Pay

The course rate for this position is $4,952–$6,189 per course. The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as qualifications, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
