Department Manager - Hardware - Putnam, CT

About the Role

The Department Manager oversees merchandising and sales within the Hardware department, ensuring the highest level of customer service. This position reports to the Store Manager and requires flexibility to work days, nights, and alternating weekends.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate the merchandising of assigned products.
• Set priorities for distribution of new merchandise within the department.
• Ensure adequate inventory in all areas of the department.
• Assist customers with purchases.
• Work closely with Retail Buyer(s) to address department product needs and stay informed on product information.
• Assist with training and direction for new department team members.
• Ensure safety practices when handling merchandise for employees and customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.

Requirements

• Ability to work an irregular schedule, including nights and alternating weekends.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand for long periods, bend, and twist.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma preferred.
• Customer service training and/or experience preferred.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of hardware and project work is preferred.

Working Environment

• Retail store environment.
• Use of computer, calculator, cash register/scanner, telephone, fax, copier, and retail software/network.

Pay

$17.00–$19.00 per hour (based on experience).
