About the role

The Department Manager - DC is responsible for managing and supporting team members in a Distribution Center to achieve business and operational objectives in safety, accuracy, production, and inventory control.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and executes plans to meet operational and organizational objectives.
  • Fulfills roles in ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and guidelines for internal and regulatory compliance.
  • Identifies and resolves production and communication issues impacting operational success.
  • Implements and executes processes for accurate inventory processing and delivery to customers.
  • Affirms safety and compliance by overseeing safe work practices and addressing safety concerns.
  • Interviews, onboards, and trains team members, providing necessary tools and resources for performance and goal achievement.
  • Builds a positive culture and environment prioritizing engagement, recognition, open communication, respect, and trust.
  • Manages time effectively, balancing "on the floor" presence and office time, and participates in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College degree preferred, but not required.
  • Any related training or education is a plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a comparable operational environment or successful completion of Michaels' Leadership Training program.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and WMS applications.
  • Experience with labor management systems (LMS) is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good problem-solving and change management skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including all days and shifts in support of business needs or special projects.

Skills

  • Logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally, maintain confidentiality, and sustain a respectful workplace.
  • Time management and flexibility to manage a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
