Department Manager
About the Role
As a Department Manager, you’ll lead and support your team to create an inclusive culture that promotes collaboration and an entrepreneurial spirit, driving success for you, your team, and H&M. You’ll ensure an excellent operational and visual experience for your store, customers, and colleagues while analyzing sales, identifying opportunities, and optimizing results and profits.
Responsibilities
- Customer Sales & Profit
- Responsible for the total OMNI customer experience in your store, ensuring visual and commercial curation according to global guidelines.
- Represent H&M positively during customer interactions.
- Identify and act on your department’s strengths and commercial opportunities.
- Establish and analyze sales and budget goals, creating plans to optimize results.
- Ensure customer service is provided across the store, with your team actively promoting and selling products.
- Follow up on team efforts to promote the Customer Loyalty App (Hello Member) and in-store sustainability initiatives.
- Manage your department cost-efficiently.
- Ensure correct routines in fitting rooms and checkout, including transactions, returns, and exchanges.
- Handle all admin routines for people and operations correctly.
- Fashion & Trend Awareness
- Stay up-to-date with the fashion scene, trends, styles, brands, competitors, and influencers.
- Ensure your team provides product and fashion knowledge during customer interactions.
- Team & Development
- Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, performance management, upskilling, and developing your team.
- Complete performance evaluations and succession planning to support business and team needs.
- Retain and share your knowledge and skills with your team.
- Collaborate, plan, and work with the in-store Visual Merchandiser team.
- Give and receive feedback to learn, develop, and support colleagues.
- Oversee team planning and scheduling.
- Communicate regularly with store colleagues to inform, motivate, and inspire through daily and weekly meetings.
- Ensure all procedures, routines, and legal requirements are followed.
- Participate in relevant onboarding, training, and courses for your role and future development.
- Retail Operations / Visual & Commercial Execution
- Maintain a clean and tidy sales floor and back-of-house, including stockroom areas.
- Ensure high fashion quality, visual, and commercial product presentation with proper garment care.
- Maintain good stock levels and provide input on allocation to the Area team.
- Oversee the full garment cycle—from delivery to presentation—and fitting room routines according to standards.
- Follow best practices for in-store OMNI services and tech tools (Instore Care App, Click & Collect, Smart Store, etc.).
- Ensure a strong balance and maintenance of price signs in-store, following global and local strategies.
- Maintain back-of-house areas for all colleagues, including key information, health & safety, and tidiness.
- Responsible for daily store opening and closing.

Pay
Expected base salary range is $20.90–$24.04 per hour.
