Department Manager
About the role
The Department Manager will support Franklin Industries by skillful management of the team and by meeting all safety requirements and production goals of the department. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined and is comfortable in an industrial setting. The ideal candidate should have previous supervisory experience and be comfortable in managing both equipment and people.
Franklin Industries is a hot rolling steel mill located in Franklin, PA. Using recycled railroad steel, we manufacture high quality U-channel for signs, etc., as well as T-posts for agriculture.
Responsibilities
- Manage the department
- Watch and abide by all safety protocols
- Provide trainings, leadership, and motivation
- Attend meetings and complete all trainings as assigned
- Participate on interview panels
- Monitor and track staff attendance
- Implement disciplinary procedures as per policy
- Complete regular and/or annual employee reviews
- Report KPIs to company executives
- Send month-end report to President
- Check email calendar for important meetings or events
- Conduct "Toolbox Talk" (safety), conduct beginning and end-of-shift employee meetings
- Update skills and training matrix; find the best fit for employees
- Keep current job manual for manager position that includes daily/weekly/monthly/yearly checklist
- Establish and maintain continuous improvement (2 Second Lean), problem-solving (KATA technique), and root cause analysis
- Maintain ISO 9001:2015 department standards
- Serve on company committees
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Supervisory or line of progression experience; familiarity with and knowledge of department
- Industrial-related and production management experience preferred
- Good leadership/management skills; detail-oriented
- Strong mechanical knowledge
- Strong data skills
- Computer skills, Excel
- Good math skills
- Use of hand tools
Working Conditions
This is a safety sensitive position. You will be around and/or operating heavy machinery. Working around mechanical parts and vibrations, working around some fumes and gases, working with some fluids and chemicals, working around loud noises.
Physical Requirements: Ability to climb on, off, and around equipment, ability to sit, stand, and walk for periods of time, ability to lift items (occasionally very heavy, in excess of 50 pounds), various repetitive motions.
Pay
Salary: Between $80 and $85K, commensurate with experience. The Following Incentives Are Also Available: Bonus and production incentives, referral bonuses, paid holidays.
