Since 1968, Neighborcare Health has been removing barriers to health care for our neighbors. We believe everyone deserves a place to call their medical home, where a team of medical, dental, and mental-health professionals collaborate with each patient to develop a personal health-improvement plan. We are one of the largest providers of primary medical, dental, and behavioral-health care in the Seattle area, serving low-income and uninsured families, seniors on fixed incomes, immigrants, and people experiencing homelessness. Each year we care for nearly 60,000 patients at nearly 30 nonprofit medical, dental, and school-based clinics.

About the role

The Dentist is responsible for the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in a clinical setting. They document treatment, communicate with patients, and refer to partners as appropriate. This role also provides guidance and oversight to the dental support team.

Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care

  • Detect and diagnose oral disease including dental caries, periodontal disease, and oral pathology
  • Make reasonable and sound dental assessments and treatment plans and communicate them to the patient
  • Provide high-quality dental care to patients in accordance with licensure requirements and Neighborcare Health policies and procedures
  • Perform all aspects of general dentistry including restorative work, surgical extractions, basic endodontics, scaling and root planing, pediatrics, and removable prosthodontics
  • Integrate patient education into all treatment phases and partner with patients to achieve optimal oral health that meets their needs
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment
  • Obtain history and physical appropriate to dental needs and care; coordinate care with the primary care team
  • Stay abreast of new innovations, changing practice guidelines, and standards to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based care through continuing education and professional development
  • Practice universal precautions, appropriate infection control, and sterilization processes as defined by Neighborcare Health’s policies and procedures
  • Review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information prior to providing care
  • Consult with appropriate providers and make recommendations to patients for outside referrals as needed
  • Document all patient visits, communication, referrals, and prescriptions accurately and timely in compliance with Neighborcare Health guidelines
  • Participate in developing and utilizing Neighborcare Health practice guidelines and procedures, using disease registries, participating in audits, and being involved with risk management and utilization management programs

Indirect Patient Care

  • Review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information prior to providing care
  • Consult with appropriate providers and make recommendations to patients for outside referrals as needed
  • Document all patient visits, communication, referrals, and prescriptions accurately and timely in compliance with Neighborcare Health guidelines
  • Participate in developing and utilizing Neighborcare Health practice guidelines and procedures, using disease registries, participating in audits, and being involved with risk management and utilization management programs

Administrative Work

  • Assist the Clinic Administrator and Site Dental Director in planning and evaluating effective clinic operations
  • Assist with meeting clinic quality improvement and operations goals, striving for an efficient, productive clinic
  • Participate as a team member with all clinical staff to embody the principles of Neighborcare Health’s Service Commitments
  • Lead a team of support staff to ensure services meet or exceed the expectations of patients, coworkers, the public, and community standards
  • Attend and contribute at staff meetings, provider meetings, and other in-service trainings
  • Keep abreast of new developments in dentistry through structured continuing professional development and update delivery of care based on evidence-based practices
  • May participate in preceptorship of dental residents, dental assisting students, dental hygiene students, and/or as a clinical shadowing mentor

Requirements

  • Dental Degree (DDS or DMD) from an American Dental Association accredited dental school
  • Current Washington State Department of Health Dentist License
  • BLS Certification
  • One year of residency training or clinical practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • DEA License
  • Completed a one-year clinical residency program
  • One or more years practicing in a community health setting
  • Community health experience
  • Bilingual

  • Ability to meet and comply with HIPAA/Confidentiality policies and procedures and handle confidential and sensitive patient and staff information

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct discussions of a sensitive nature with staff and patients
  • Ability to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Ability to develop collaborative working relationships that foster a positive working environment with an emphasis on teamwork
  • Proficiency with computers, email, and electronic medical records
  • Effective communication in person, via email, and on the phone

Pay

The target wage range for this position is $75.31 per hour to $111.62 per hour. Final offers are individually based on various factors, including skill set, years of experience, location, qualifications, work schedule, and other job-related reasons.
